Bowness-on-Windermere is located within the South Lakeland in Cumbria, on the banks of the famous Lake Windermere, one of the most popular attractions in Cumbria, where you can enjoy lake cruises and camping activities.

Other great activities to participate in can be found at the much-loved World of Beatrix Potter, a museum where the characters of Potter’s stories are brought to life in a recreation of the Lakes countryside. Children will also love the Aquarium of the Lakes, where you can experience the United Kingdom’s largest collection of freshwater fish and watch otters and ducks being fed.

If animals aren’t the main focus of your interest then enjoy the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway, where you can travel through time, enjoying a leisurely journey through the Leven Valley watching the gorgeous scenery. The Lake District is also the location to enjoy great walks and outdoor pursuits, with many centres located around the area where you can begin a new hobby or just enjoy a current one.

Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel
You really can’t go wrong with the Lindeth Howe Hotel, especially if you’re looking for tranquility, character and history. Perched above Lake Windermere (whose view is idyllic from the third floor), Lindeth Howe can appear a little old-fashioned at first, but its charming quality, attentive staff and indoor swimming pool and sauna really made my stay a relaxing one. Paul Bingley

Windermere Quays Boat Hire, Glebe Road, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria LA23 3HE
There’s nothing quite like a relaxing day bobbing about on Lake Windermere, and thanks to Windermere Quays Boat Hire, you can be the captain of your very own ship.

Offering rowing boats and compact electric launches for hire at a very reasonable fee (you also receive detailed instruction, so don’t worry), Windermere Quays also offers a café restaurant and bar from which to view the watery scene.
My family and I enjoyed a fun hour away from the shore and managed to return the boat without so much as a sinking, capsizing or collision! Paul Bingley
