Carlisle Airport

By road Carlisle Airport is easily accessible being signposted at junction 44 of the M6 Motorway. There are currently no scheduled flights to or from this airport. The airport is open from 9am to 6.30pm every day of the week and there is a licensed cafe on the premises.

The airport is home to a range of flying schools where trainee pilots can learn to fly 2, 4 and 6 seater planes as well as Microlights. As well as offering full instructor led courses there is also the opportunity to buy ‘trial’ lessons as a gift for someone who is perhaps considering taking up flying.

Four companies run lessons: Carlisle Flight Training, Border Air Training, Cumbria Microlight Training Centre, and Northumberland Aircraft Maintenance.

The airport was recently bought by the Stobart Group which has recognised the importance of Carlisle airport’s location, being the gateway to Scotland, as well as on the borders of the Lake District, and it is believed that the group are keen to develop both air freight and passenger flights from the airport in the future.
