Doncaster

A large town in South Yorkshire, England, Doncaster is a great example of a British town, with loads of fun things to see and do both in and around the area.

Doncaster’s nearest city is Sheffield, located around 20 miles away, and is easily accessed by both road and public transport, where you can find even more to do. Amongst the attractions at Doncaster is Hatfield Water Park, which offers excellent water sports facilities with friendly instructors on hand for beginners. A short trip from the centre of the town is The Dome, one of the UK's top sports and leisure attractions featuring The Lagoons, a magical 7-pool water world.

 

There are a variety of Museums and Galleries located in Doncaster, including the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery situated in pleasant, enclosed gardens in the town centre. The museum tells the story of the Doncaster region using natural history, archaeology, local history, fine and decorative art. Also nearby is Aeroventure, a museum specializing in post-war aircraft and other flying memorabilia and is located at Lakeside, just outside of the town centre.

Doncaster’s aviation history began back in 1909 when the country’s first aviation meeting and air display was held at Doncaster Racecourse. Since then, Doncaster has hosted RAF squadrons, civil airlines and gliders.

Located at Doncaster Lakeside, Aeroventure celebrates this aviation heritage with an exhibition of military aircraft, helicopters and aircraft engines.

Housing the world’s largest collection of historic trolleybuses, The Trolleybus Museum is only open on selected days of the year.

Showcasing 46 trolleybuses as well as a selection of chassis, the museum aims to entertain, educate and give excellent value to visitors interested in the trolleybus.
