Folkestone stands as the principal town in Shepway District of the county of Kent, England.
Perhaps the most important aspect of Folkestone’s attractions is its position as the only location within an hour of London to feature a sandy beach and coastal park. The major landmarks in Folkestone comprise of the Harbour and the Leas, the cliffs above the beach. A Martello Tower stands on the cliff above Copt Point, and is an example of a 19th Century defence against Napoleon. Currently it houses a visitor centre. Other attractions include the Folkestone White Horse that is carved on Cheriton Hill above the Channel Tunnel terminal.
Located at Hawkinge, the nearest RAF station to enemy-occupied France, the Kent Battle of Britain Museum is the oldest and largest collection of Battle of Britain artefacts in the country.
Showcasing several Hurricane fighters as well as a fully-sized Messerschmitt replica; the museum is only open during the summer months.
