Grampians

The Grampians are some of the best that Scotland has to offer with historic towns and dramatic mountain scenery. Be prepared for a breathtaking surprise.  Aberdeen is the main city and is also known as the Granite City with its many historic buildings.

Visit Union Street for some of the best shopping around. Escaping the city the Cairngorms are the mountain range in this area and known for skiing, climbing and walking. There are moorland with deer and birds of prey and grouse. This is hunting and fishing country and has many castles in the area.  

In Royal Deeside there are many small towns and villages associated with the Royal Family and Victorian tradition. At Braemar visit this historic town for the famous Highland Games, and in Ballater the shops are full of Highland crafts and many have a royal warranty, and it is a real base for exploring the peaks of Lochnagar and other Cairngorm peaks.

The holiday residence of the Queen is at Balmoral , and further along the Dee Crathes Castle and Gardens.

At the Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve visitors can see a woodland area formed after the Ice Age. Drum Castle is another interesting sight near Aberdeen. At Glencoe there is fantastic walking into this tragic but atmospheric battlefield famed the world over as the site where one clan slaughtered another.

Ski at Aviemore and take a journey on the scenic Strathspey Steam Railway. At the Kincraig Highland Wildlife Park observe bears, wolves and wild boar. Reindeer can also be seen at the reserve in Aviemore. At the Loch Garten Nature Reserve ospreys now thrive. So much to see in this wild region of Scotland, just make up your mind where to go first and remember your camera and walking boots.
