Hastings

The town of Hastings is located on the coast of East Sussex in England and claims its fame through connections with the Norman Conquest of England and its role as one of the medieval Cinque Ports.

Hastings is home to internationally based cultural and sporting events, such as chess and running that take place at different times throughout the year. Landmarks in Hastings include the castle, where little remains of the Castle apart from an arch of the chapel, walls, and underground dungeons, and Hastings Pier.

 

The pier itself is closed due to its being considered in an unsafe condition, but it can be viewed from various points within the town. On the seafront at St Leonard’s is Marine Court, a 1930s block of flats in the Art Deco style that is said to represent an ocean liner and is a pleasing thing to see. The town also enjoys a number of traditional seaside activities, including a variety of excellent fish and chip shops and ice cream stalls.

Interactive exhibits, dramatic film and battlefield walks bring to life the fateful day on which King Harold and his English forces were defeated by the invading Normans.

Located in Hastings’ historic old town, the Blue Reef Aquarium exhibits 30 naturally-themed underwater habitats which are home to everything from giant crabs to tropical sharks.
The centrepiece is a giant ocean tank that houses a walk-through underwater tunnel where visitors can watch hundreds of colourful fish swim around an exotic coral reef.
