Lochinver

The village of Lochinver is located on the coast in the Assynt district of Sutherland, in the Highlands of Scotland. A few miles northeast is Loch Assynt which is the source of the River Inver which flows into Loch Inver at the village.

Lochinver is the second largest fishing port in Scotland and enjoys visitors coming from all over the world wanting to taste the local delicacies. The back of Lochinver has beautiful nature areas being developed in conjunction with small-scale forestry activities. Lochinver is also a hub for birdwatchers, as the birdlife in the Lochinver area includes the curlew, oystercatcher and hooded crow.

 

Of course there are many outdoor activities to be enjoyed in the area, including pony trekking, cycling, wildlife watching, walking, hiking and many others. There are also a number of accommodation choices, ranging from campsites to guesthouses, with a number of fine restaurants to eat at.

Forming an impressive backdrop to the pretty Highland village of Lochinver; Culag Wood is an extensive 100 acre mixed woodland that creeps down to the shores of Loch Culag.

Facilities run by the Culag Community Woodland Trust include a sculpture trail, a heron viewing project, and a children’s tepee play area.
