Lyng

Lyng is a village located within the English county of Norfolk on the River Wensum. The village is a picturesque area, popular with visitors who wish for a countryside retreat that still has many things to see and to do. Amongst these are St. Margaret's Church and the public house of The Fox and Hounds both of which are located near to the river. Lyng also features a Motocross track, which is the site of the British Motocross Championship that is held annually. The track is located to the south of the village. Keeping with the motoring nature of the village, Lyng is also known as the Birthplace of Fifth Gear presenter Quentin Wilson.

 

The hamlet of Lyng Eastaugh lies to the east of the village close to Weston Longville and houses the ruins of a nunnery called St. Edmund's Chapel. The settlement was dissolved in 1176 when the nunnery moved to St. George's Nunnery, Thetford.
