Morecambe

Morecambe is a resort town within the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. One of Morecambe's most famous landmarks is a statue that commemorates one of its most famous sons, Eric Morecambe and was created by sculptor Graham Ibbeson. One of the landmark buildings in the town is the partially renovated Victoria Pavilion, popularly known as Morecambe Winter Gardens, which was once a venue for swimming baths, grand theatre, a restaurant and ballroom. A site of architectural importance is The Midland Hotel, which is an art deco luxury hotel situated along the seafront and still contains interior design and art pieces by artist Eric Gill. It has undergone a £7m restoration, headed by Manchester company Urban Splash with new additions including an outdoor swimming pool.

 

Amongst the many things to do in Morecambe are some excellent shops and restaurants, as well as a number of entertainment venues, such as theatres and a cinema.

Known for being the largest expanse of sand in the UK, Morecambe Bay is an area that covers a total of 310 square miles.

It’s a bay that is so difficult to cross, groups of royally-appointed guides known as Queen’s Guide to the Sands, are employed to see walkers across safely.
