Mourne Seafood, Belfast, Dundrum Newcastle
Mourne Seafood Bar has grown over the years to now include three locations. The first restaurant was opened in the historic village of Dundrum, located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, from which it takes it names. The Belfast branch is located beside the famous Kelly’s Cellar pub, beside the Castle Court shopping mall in the city centre. The latest addition is the seafood cafe in Newcastle, with views out towards the stunning beach.
Mourne Seafood is unique in Ireland in that it sources its seafood from its own shellfish beds in Ballyedmond in Carlingford Lough. The fish is purchased directly from the local ports in Annalong and Kilkeel. The menu changes twice a day, depending on the local catch, so while the website provides a sample menu there’s no guarantee that any of the dishes will be served on your visit. However, oysters, mussels and lobster frequently appear on the menu, alongside pan fried crab claws and piri-piri prawns. At Mourne Seafood, the ethos is to introduce seafood lovers to lesser known varieties of fish so you’ll often find fish like Gurnard, Ling and John Dory on the menu. If fish isn’t your thing then there are also prime cuts of beef and Northern Irish chicken. Children’s meals and vegetarian options are available on request.
The Belfast restaurant does not take bookings for lunch so be sure to arrive early as queues have a habit of building up quickly. It is advised to make reservations for tables after 5pm.
