North Yorkshire

The rugged beauty of North Yorkshire attracts many visitors each year. York with its Minster and historic streets is a major visitor destination whilst further north the North Yorkshire Moors provide excellent walking country and has a number of beautiful sights such as the Aysgarth Falls and at Malham.

Nearby Castle Howard is an elegant stately home and estate used in the filming of Brideshead Revisited and now a prominent tourist attraction. Eden Camp is a converted barracks and depicts the story of World War Two. Take time to see the spa town of elegant Harrogate with its baths and famous tea rooms. The regency style buildings and parks provide an inspirational place to spend a few days.  

The historic town of Knaresborough is well known for Mother Shipton’s Cave and for its beautiful riverside walks. At Fountains Abbey walk among the ruins and at Ripon spend a day at the races.

 

On the coast the seaside town of Scarborough is a traditional holiday area that retains its charm, and at Whitby look out for the famous black jet used in jewellery making.

Walk around beautiful Robin Hoods Bay, the rumoured location of where Robin Hood hid his boats, and a town with a string history of past smuggling. The market town of Thirsk has some real Yorkshire charm and the village of Wharram Percy is one of the most important medieval village sites in England.

Walk in the North Yorkshire Moors through villages like Goathland and Lastingham, and to the waterfall at Mallyam Spout. Visit Farndale in spring for its daffodils, and Wade’s Causeway originally built by a Roman army. North Yorkshire has a huge variety of places to see and explore and is an excellent choice of holiday destination.
