Nestling in a beautiful setting in Somerset among the Mendip hills is Shepton Mallet, a very pretty small town that has a rich and engaging history.
Recorded as a settlement in the Domesday Book and believed to date from long before then, Shepton Mallet is a town that is now home to 10,000 people and some impressive preserved architecture. Roman remains are naturally present as the town is located on the great Roman road the Fosse Way, while later notable buildings include a unique hexagonal market cross that dates from the 16th century and some very fine parish churches.
