Abingdon Map A positive mecca for tourists, Blackpool is a seaside playground with attractions for everyone. Probably the most popular coastal resort in the UK, the town is dominated by Blackpool Tower, reaching to a height of 158 metres above the glamorous Tower Ballroom.  
 

Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach amusement park presents the tourist with a wide variety of rides, whilst the beach itself is a sandy paradise for relaxation. The three piers stretching out from the beach offer a range of shops and yet more amusements and rides, whilst those who prefer water fun are catered for in the Sandcastle Park near the South Pier.

Blackpool’s famous Illuminations light up the seafront between August and November, 11 kilometres of display lights. A tram ride is another essential during a visit here; they date back to 1885 and still running throughout the town. The fun theme of the town continues into the evening with theatres and variety shows to visits, and numerous restaurants catering for all tastes. Exhibitions not to be missed include Madame Tussauds and Dr Who. Blackpool now boasts its own Gay Pride celebration, and there is a proliferation of gay bars and clubs in the town, welcoming that sector of the community.

Pleasure Beach

This fun park is very big and very popular with the English. With 145 rides spread over 16 hectares, it is a big day out. There are some hi tech modern rides as well as the good old fashioned roller coasters to get heart racing. (0870 444 5566)

Sandcastle Water world

Located across from Pleasure Beach is this indoor water ride and pool park. (343 602)

The Tower

Located on the Central Promenade, this unmissable landmark is 155 metres high and lit by over 10,000 lights. Inside you will find an entertainment complex that includes a Ballroom, which is one of the grandest in England; the Tower Circus; the Hornpipe Gallery; the dinosaur ride and the Tower Aquarium.

Sealife Centre

Near Central Pier this modern aquarium features sharks and many other deep sea creatures.

North Pier

One of three famous piers in Blackpool, this one is the longest and was constructed in 1862. There are lots of carnival attractions and rides located here.
