The walks around Eyam are not just about the views. The history of the plague is everywhere. A short 3.3km walk leaves Eyam and goes past Mompesson's Well, a boundary point where villagers received food but could not pass for fear of spreading infection. There are the plague cottages on Church Street, Bagshaw House and Eyam Museum. The history connected with these buildings makes for sobering, interesting walks. Jo Smith
